Set in the storybook hamlet of Entrèves beneath Mont Blanc, Auberge de la Maison is an intimate alpine hideaway where old wood, firelight, and glacier views create a deeply romantic sense of escape, rooted in the timeless warmth of Aosta Valley hospitality.

Story

Auberge de la Maison’s story is rooted in the Garin family’s long legacy of hospitality in Courmayeur, which began in the 1950s with traditional mountain inns in Val Ferret and Entrèves. In 1996, Alessandra Garin transformed this heritage into something deeply personal: a house at the foot of Mont Blanc shaped by her love of alpine life, antique furnishings, and the timeless rituals of mountain living.

Created as a true mountain home rather than a conventional hotel, the Auberge layers old wood, stone, collected antiques, artworks, and hand finished details to evoke the warmth of an elegant alpine residence. Firelit lounges, timbered ceilings, and rooms that frame the glaciers all preserve the intimacy and romance of traditional Aosta Valley living, while elevating it through quiet refinement.

Set in the storybook hamlet of Entrèves beneath Mont Blanc, Auberge de la Maison remains deeply connected to the rhythms of the mountains, offering a soulful retreat rooted in heritage, craftsmanship, and the enduring hospitality of the Italian Alps.

Local life & traditions

Life in Entrèves is shaped by the rhythms of the mountains, where stone and timber houses sit beneath Mont Blanc and traditions remain closely tied to the seasons. Winter brings wood fires, skiing and village feast days, while summer shifts to alpine grazing, wildflower meadows and long walks through Val Ferret and Val Veny, valleys that have shaped local life for generations.

The culture of the Aosta Valley is distinctively alpine and proudly bilingual, with Italian and French influences woven into language, food and architecture. Kitchens centre on fontina, polenta concia, rye bread, cured mocetta and mountain herbs, while local craftsmanship still lives through wood carving, wrought iron, woven wool textiles and hand made objects created during the long winter months.

The people here are warm but understated, shaped by mountain resilience and a deep sense of place. Life moves with snowfall, church bells, craft fairs and long fireside meals. Culture here is inherited, not performed.

Protecting culture & land

At Auberge de la Maison, preservation begins with continuity. For three generations, the Garin family has safeguarded the spirit of alpine hospitality in Entrèves, carrying forward traditions of warmth, craftsmanship and mountain living that are deeply rooted in the Aosta Valley. Antique furnishings, wood carvings, local objects and collected pieces of mountain life preserve the cultural memory of the region within the house itself.

Set within the historic hamlet of Entrèves, the Auberge protects the architectural and human scale of mountain life, remaining intimate in size and deeply connected to the village rather than expanding beyond it. Its presence supports local food traditions, family suppliers and the cultural economy of Courmayeur and the wider valley.

Small in scale and intentionally personal, Auberge de la Maison protects not only place, but the enduring rhythm, character and hospitality traditions of life beneath Mont Blanc.
