Hidden in the hills of Tramonti, far above the busier towns of the Amalfi Coast, Felicia's Country House occupies a 17th-century family home surrounded by vineyards, chestnut woods and fruit trees.

Story

Felicia’s Country House is rooted in four generations of the same farming family. The 17th-century farmhouse was home to Felicia’s grandparents, Tanino and Rosina, who farmed the surrounding land while running a local restaurant. Their daughter Felicia grew up here, learning the recipes and traditions that would later inspire Felicia’s Home Restaurant.

Today, Felicia’s daughter Giovanna Del Pizzo is writing the next chapter. After studying abroad and working in luxury, she returned to Tramonti in search of a slower life connected to family and nature. Together, they have opened their home to guests — transforming a centuries-old family farm into an intimate country stay without losing the traditions that shaped it.

Tomatoes, courgettes, fruit, eggs, nuts, chestnuts and lemons are grown or gathered by the family, alongside homemade preserves, salumi, wine and bread. The relationship between farm and kitchen remains tangible.

Tramonti sits inland among the Monti Lattari, characterised by vineyards, chestnut woods and scattered farmhouses. Staying here reveals the agricultural culture behind a coastline more commonly associated with glamorous seaside hotels.

Tradition passes from one generation to another

Rosina's farming and cooking passed to Felicia; Felicia's hospitality and recipes now sit alongside Giovanna's vision for the Country House. That continuity is arguably the property's most distinctive form of luxury.

A home before it was a hotel

This is the house where Felicia grew up and where generations of the family farmed before anyone thought of welcoming travellers. Its sense of place comes from family history rather than styling.

Local life & traditions

Tramonti's name means “between the mountains”, and life here has traditionally been very different from the coastal towns below. Families farm small plots among the Monti Lattari, growing vines, chestnuts, lemons, vegetables and fruit.

At Felicia's, the year still follows those agricultural rhythms: winter is for sowing; spring for pruning vines; summer for tomatoes and making preserves; autumn for the grape and chestnut harvests. Felicia's parents continue to make bread, part of which is slowly toasted in the wood-fired oven so it can be stored through winter.

In autumn, experience Tramonti during the grape harvest, when the agricultural year culminates in the vendemmia. Felicia’s Country House itself has around one hectare of vines.

Protecting culture & land

Felicia's preservation story is particularly compelling because the traditions being protected are still living ones.

The family continues to cultivate the land according to the seasons. The Country House lists approximately one hectare of vines and two hectares of chestnut trees, alongside figs, apples, cherries and olives. The vegetable garden is still cared for by Giovanna's grandparents and supplies Felicia's kitchen.

Preserving recipes matters too. Bread is still made at home, fruit becomes jams, summer tomatoes become preserves and produce is stored in oil for later in the year — practical rural traditions once essential to feeding a family through the seasons.

Location & surroundings

Felicia's Country House is in Tramonti, Campania, within the mountainous interior of the Amalfi Coast.

The house sits among vineyards, chestnut groves, orchards and meadows, offering a much more rural expression of the region. Amalfi, Ravello and Maiori remain within reach, but Tramonti feels distinctly removed from the intensity of the coast.

By plane: Naples International Airport is the principal international gateway.

By train: Salerno is the most practical major railway station for high-speed services, followed by a private transfer into the hills.

By car: Tramonti is reached inland from the Amalfi Coast, with Maiori providing one of the most useful approaches from the coast.
