Book THE PIG on the farm for Book THE PIG on the farm
Just south of Stratford-upon-Avon, THE PIG-on the farm is taking shape across 53 acres of Warwickshire pasture and farmland. At its heart is a centuries-old farmhouse surrounded by barns, courtyards and traces of an abandoned medieval settlement — a proper working farm that THE PIG is carefully bringing back to life.

Story

The heart of the property is a mid-16th-century listed manor house, once part of land owned by the Mordaunt family on the edge of the Walton Estate. Weathered brick, timber beams, barns, stables and farm buildings reveal centuries of agricultural life.

The landscape is older still. Earthworks belonging to a deserted medieval village, documented as far back as 1279, survive beside the farm, while archaeological evidence east of the house points to activity stretching back to the Neolithic and Iron Age.

THE PIG is now restoring the collection of buildings rather than replacing them, with opening planned for late summer 2027.

Local life & traditions

This is rural Shakespeare country, a landscape of mixed farms, pasture, old villages and hedgerows surrounding Stratford-upon-Avon.

Farming remains fundamental to Warwickshire's identity, from livestock and arable agriculture to orchards and market gardens. At THE PIG-on the farm, that agricultural landscape won't simply surround the hotel: the farm itself becomes part of the stay, with pasture, productive gardens and historic agricultural buildings woven throughout the property.

Authentic experiences in the area

Explore the pasture, farmland and productive gardens, seeing how a working agricultural landscape changes with the seasons.

Start in the Kitchen Garden

Walk through the garden before even reaching the house, discovering what is growing and how the day’s harvest shapes what appears in the restaurant.

Trace a lost medieval village

The surrounding land contains visible earthworks from a deserted settlement recorded in the 13th century — an extraordinary reminder of the generations who inhabited this landscape before the present farm.

Discover Shakespeare's Warwickshire

Explore nearby Stratford-upon-Avon and the villages and countryside associated with Shakespeare, before returning to the much quieter agricultural landscape surrounding the farm.

Protecting culture & land

Preservation is particularly important here because THE PIG has inherited a collection of historic agricultural buildings.

The farmhouse, barns and outbuildings are being restored with their existing character — old beams, brickwork, irregular spaces and centuries of additions — retained wherever possible. Earlier plans were developed in consultation with Historic England, with the historic significance of the buildings explicitly placed at the centre of the restoration. Outside, productive farmland and pasture remain integral.

Location & surroundings

THE PIG-on the farm occupies 53 acres on the southwestern edge of the Walton Estate in South Warwickshire, just south of Stratford-upon-Avon.

It sits close to the borders of Oxfordshire, Gloucestershire and Worcestershire, placing guests between Shakespeare’s Stratford, Warwick and the northern edge of the Cotswolds.
