Set within the Kent countryside, Boys Hall is a restored Jacobean manor that blends centuries of English history with fire-lit interiors, garden views, and the warm, food-led atmosphere of a true country house escape.

Story

Boys Hall’s story begins in 1616, when the Jacobean manor was first built as a grand family home in the Kent countryside. Over the centuries, its oak beams, original fireplaces, panelled rooms, and mullioned windows quietly absorbed the rhythms of English country life, becoming part of the region’s architectural heritage.

Centuries later, owners Brad and Kristie Lomas undertook a thoughtful restoration of the house, carefully preserving its period character while bringing new warmth through layered interiors, antiques, rich fabrics, and a deeply personal sense of hospitality. Today, the manor’s history lives on through candlelit dining rooms, fireside lounges, and bedrooms that feel rooted in the house’s long story.

Local life & traditions

This is the Garden of England, where orchards, hop gardens, and fertile farmland have shaped daily life for centuries. Kentish apples, cobnuts, cheeses, and produce from nearby farms still define the rhythm of the seasons, with local markets and growers keeping agricultural traditions deeply rooted in place.

Nearby villages and market towns carry the county’s layered character, from timber-framed pubs and ancient churches to antique shops, weekly markets, and coastal fishmongers supplied by the Kent shoreline. Architecture here is distinctly English - red brick, weatherboarded barns, mullioned windows, and ivy-covered manor houses - while kitchens centre on orchard fruit, game, local cheeses, and seafood from the coast.

Protecting culture & land

At Boys Hall, preservation begins with restoration. This 17th-century Jacobean manor has been carefully revived rather than reinvented, retaining original oak beams, fireplaces, panelled rooms, and period architectural details that safeguard an important piece of Kent’s country house heritage.

Beyond the house itself, the property remains closely tied to the surrounding agricultural landscape. Menus built around Kentish orchards, nearby farms, coastal seafood, and local producers keep both economic and cultural value rooted in the county, honouring the traditions that have shaped life here for generations.

Location & surroundings

Set in the heart of Kent, the landscape surrounding Boys Hall is shaped by orchards, vineyards, market towns, and the fertile countryside that has long earned the county its title as the Garden of England.

The manor sits just outside Ashford, where gardens, open fields, and ancient trees create a distinctly English sense of place. Beyond the house, the wider landscape unfolds into orchard country, rolling farmland, and the soft green patchwork that defines this corner of southeast England.
