Book Villa Torre, Tenuta di Murlo for Book Villa Torre, Tenuta di Murlo
Rising from the hills of Tenuta di Murlo, Villa Torre has been created around an ancient medieval watchtower. Stone walls, an infinity pool and a rooftop terrace look across seemingly endless Umbrian countryside, while inside, just three bedrooms make this one of the estate's more intimate private houses.

Story

Villa Torre grew from an ancient medieval watchtower, built in an elevated position from which the surrounding valleys and countryside could be observed. That relationship with the landscape remains the defining feature of the house today: tall windows frame the hills, terraces open towards the valley, and the original tower culminates in a panoramic rooftop terrace.

The villa forms part of Tenuta di Murlo, the vast historic estate stewarded across generations by the Carabba Tettamanti Radziwill family. Across thousands of hectares of woodland, olive groves, valleys, lakes and streams, nine private villas now occupy historic buildings scattered through the landscape. Torre is one of the smallest, accommodating four adults and four children while retaining the feeling of an old Umbrian country house.

Local life & traditions

The countryside surrounding Perugia has been shaped for centuries by olive cultivation, woodland, farming and seasonal food. Torre's elevated position looks directly across that agricultural landscape.

Life at Murlo still follows many of these rhythms, from ingredients produced on the estate's own farm to olive groves and seasonal produce. Beyond the estate, Umbria's traditions of truffle hunting, handmade pasta, small-scale wine production and long family meals provide a deeper connection to the region.

Protecting culture & land

Torre's strongest preservation story is the continued use of its medieval watchtower. Rather than treating it as a ruin or removing its historic character, the tower has become the architectural centrepiece of a living home, with its stonework and elevated position still defining how the building is experienced.

More broadly, Murlo remains a vast agricultural and natural landscape of woodland, olive groves, fields and waterways. The family's restored villas occupy existing historic buildings dispersed through that landscape, allowing hospitality to grow from the estate's heritage.

Location & surroundings

Villa Torre sits in an elevated position within Tenuta di Murlo, in the Umbrian countryside north of Perugia. From the tower and gardens, views stretch across the surrounding hills and valleys.

The villa feels deeply secluded, but guests remain connected to the wider estate and its restaurant, experiences and walking routes. Perugia, Assisi and Gubbio provide easy cultural excursions beyond Murlo.
