Set in the creative heart of Rome’s Monti district just moments from artisan studios, cobbled lanes and ancient ruins, Casa Monti is a design led Roman retreat where bold interiors, rooftop views and bohemian energy create a deeply stylish sense of escape, immersed in the artistic spirit of the Eternal City.

Story

Casa Monti’s story begins in Rome’s oldest and most creative rione, where artisans, antique dealers and independent makers have long shaped the soul of Monti. Set within an eighteenth century palazzo on Via Panisperna, the house draws on the neighbourhood’s bohemian past, where workshops, galleries and everyday Roman life continue to unfold along cobbled streets beneath ancient ruins.

Centuries later, the building was reimagined as an artist’s residence by designer Laura Gonzalez, preserving its Roman bones while layering in frescoes, mosaics, vintage Italian pieces and commissioned works by local makers. Today, bold colour, hand finished details and crafted objects add warmth without disturbing the soul of the house, creating the feeling of stepping into a Roman atelier shaped by la dolce vita.

Set in the heart of Monti just moments from the Colosseum and Forum, Casa Monti remains deeply connected to the neighbourhood’s artistic spirit, offering a richly atmospheric escape rooted in craftsmanship, creativity and a true sense of Roman place.

Local life & traditions

This is the Rome of artisan workshops, family run trattorie and small botteghe where leatherworkers, ceramicists and antique dealers still shape the daily rhythm of Monti. Morning begins with espresso at the bar, afternoons drift through galleries and hidden courtyards, and evenings settle into aperitivo on cobbled piazzas as the neighbourhood’s creative spirit comes alive.

Monti rises in ochre facades, ivy draped balconies and streets layered with ancient ruins, a district long defined by makers, merchants and Roman everyday life. Kitchens centre on cacio e pepe, carciofi, supplì and slow cooked Roman classics, while vintage boutiques, bookshops and artisan ateliers keep the neighbourhood’s culture deeply rooted in craft.

Protecting culture & land

At Casa Monti, preservation begins with creative restoration. Set within an eighteenth century Roman palazzo, the house has been carefully reimagined rather than reinvented, retaining its architectural bones while celebrating the decorative traditions, mosaics and crafted surfaces that define Roman domestic elegance.

Beyond the building itself, Casa Monti protects the cultural fabric of the neighbourhood by remaining deeply rooted in Monti’s artisan ecosystem. Commissioned artworks, vintage Italian pieces and collaborations with local makers keep creative and economic value within the rione, supporting the workshops, galleries and independent studios that continue to shape its identity.

Small in scale and intentionally neighbourhood led, Casa Monti protects not only a building, but the artistic rhythm, beauty and lived spirit of old Rome.

Location & surroundings

Located in the creative heart of Rome’s Monti district, the area surrounding Casa Monti is renowned for its artisan workshops, cobbled lanes and the layered history that makes this one of the Eternal City’s most characterful and culturally rich neighbourhoods.

Set between the Colosseum, Via dei Serpenti and the Roman Forum, Casa Monti opens onto a deeply atmospheric corner of old Rome. From its rooftop, guests look out across terracotta rooftops, church domes and ancient stone facades, a panorama that captures the timeless beauty and lived artistry of the Eternal City.
