Story

The Fife Arms has stood at the heart of Braemar since the 19th century, when it welcomed travellers journeying through the Scottish Highlands. Its history is closely intertwined with the village itself and with Royal Deeside, whose dramatic landscape and royal connections transformed this corner of Scotland into a destination during the Victorian era.

After years of decline, the former coaching inn was acquired by Iwan and Manuela Wirth, co-founders of Hauser & Wirth. Rather than creating a conventional luxury hotel, they undertook an ambitious restoration inspired by Braemar's history, characters, craftsmanship and landscape. The Fife Arms reopened in 2018, filled with Scottish antiques, specially commissioned pieces and an extraordinary collection of art spanning centuries.

Today, the hotel has become a cultural gathering place in its own right. Its festivals, artist collaborations and relationships with Highland craftspeople continue the story beyond the building — allowing The Fife Arms to celebrate not only Scotland's past, but the creativity shaping its present.
