Perched at 1,500 metres in South Tyrol’s high meadows beneath the twin peaks of Weißhorn and Schwarzhorn, Berghoferin is a refined Alpine retreat where forest silence, panoramic mountain views and deeply cultivated interiors create a restorative sense of escape, shaped by the savoir vivre of the high Dolomites.

Story

Berghoferin’s story begins in the 1960s, when this mountainside house was first built high above the Trento valley, one of the earliest retreats in South Tyrol’s quiet high meadows.

Long before the Dolomites became one of Europe’s most travelled mountain destinations, this corner of Redagno remained almost lost in time, shaped by forests, pastureland and the slow rituals of Alpine life.

Reimagined in 2022, the house was transformed into an intimate thirteen-suite hideaway with a deliberate limit of just twenty six guests at any one time. Swiss pine floors, 15th century stübli panelling, Joseph Frank textiles, antique finds and beautifully layered objects give the feeling of a passionately curated private estate rather than a hotel. Today, books, collected stories, local furniture and sunlit terraces add warmth without disturbing the spirit of the original lodge.

Local life & traditions

This is the land of Alpine pasture, forest meadows and Alto Adige wines, where mountain farms still move with the rhythms of grazing, haymaking and the short high meadow summer. Local cellars continue to pour elegant mountain wines, while smoked speck, rye bread and cheeses remain deeply tied to the agricultural traditions that shape daily life in South Tyrol.

Redagno rises in timber farmhouses, flowered balconies and tiny hilltop chapels, a hamlet proud of its Tyrolean heritage and mountain rituals. Swiss pine, carved wood, woven textiles and local furniture define the domestic culture, while kitchens centre on canederli, chanterelles, venison and pastries scented with alpine herbs and orchard fruit.

Authentic experiences in the area

Hike the Bletterbach gorge

Set out on foot to explore the nearby Bletterbach gorge, a UNESCO listed geological wonder where dramatic rock layers, forest trails and mountain silence reveal the ancient story of the Dolomites.

South Tyrolean wine and alpine gastronomy

Discover the wines of Alto Adige through guided tastings and cellar visits, paired with mountain dishes such as canederli, chanterelles, local charcuterie and orchard fruit desserts that reflect the region’s dual Italian-Tyrolean identity.

Mountain farm lunches and meadow walks

Walk directly from the house through forest meadows to traditional alpine huts and family run farms, where long lunches, local cheeses and cowbells shape the slower rhythms of life in the high pastures.

Wellness rituals in the high meadows

Return from the mountains to holistic spa rituals inspired by Alpine herbs, steam rooms, saunas and the heated outdoor pool, all framed by panoramic views of South Tyrol’s distant peaks.

Protecting culture & land

At Berghoferin, preservation begins with thoughtful adaptation. The original 1960s mountain lodge has been carefully reimagined rather than replaced, retaining its Alpine bones while honouring South Tyrol’s craft traditions through Swiss pine, local furniture, historic stübli panelling and collected regional objects.

Set in the quiet hamlet of Redagno, the house protects the slower rural character of this high meadow landscape, far removed from the overvisited corners of the Dolomites. Local wines, seasonal mountain produce and South Tyrolean craftsmanship keep cultural and economic value rooted in place, while the deliberately small scale of just thirteen suites preserves a rare sense of calm.

Location & surroundings

Located high in South Tyrol’s quiet Redagno hamlet, the area surrounding Berghoferin is renowned for its forest meadows, mountain farms and the slower Alpine rhythms that define this peaceful corner of the western Dolomites.

Set at 1,500 metres between the twin peaks of Weißhorn and Schwarzhorn, Berghoferin opens onto sweeping views of forested slopes, flowered meadows and distant Alpine ridgelines. From its terraces, guests look out across grazing pastures, tiny chapels and the vast mountain panorama, a view that captures the quiet grandeur of South Tyrol.
